About Hope Hearth

Hi,

You can call me "Po." I am an empowerment focused therapist who supports adults, adolescents, and caregivers with anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, grief, autism and burnout. Using a warm and humor-filled approach, I will help you figure out how to make your life feel sustainable and worth living.  You no longer have to feel overwhelmed by endless worry, intrusive thoughts, self doubt, loneliness or hopelessness.

My trauma-informed approach is centered on partnering with you to: identify and manage triggers for distress, develop practical coping skills, uncover your strengths, change patterns and relationship dynamics that may be harmful, and improve your communication with loved ones. I use DBT, CBT, IFS and psychodynamic therapy.

I do not focus exclusively on diagnosis in my practice. Rather, I want to help you understand yourself from a holistic point of view. In therapy, we will work together to protect your joy, strengthen your voice and gain empowerment over painful or traumatic experiences.

As a Black therapist who believes we have agency even in the face of oppression, I am dedicated to strengthening the mental health of Black, Asian, Latinx, Indigenous and LGBTQ individuals and communities.

Training and Approach

 Education:

I have a Master of Social Work from New York University, as well as two years of post master's training in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy from the Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. I am certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for OCD and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (C-DBT). I am also a Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist.

As a social worker, my practice is rooted in seeing the person as a part of their environment. Licensed Clinical Social Workers are mental health professionals whose practice is centered on six core values:

  1. service

  2. social justice

  3. dignity and worth of the person

  4. importance of human relationships

  5. integrity

  6. competence

In addition to my Master's in Clinical Social Work from New York University, I have a Master of Science from the University of Edinburgh in Social Anthropology. My training in anthropology grounds my work in deep respect for the diverse cultural perspectives that people hold across the world. My work is anti-oppressive and focused on respect for the client, their culture, and their faith.

Advanced Clinical Training:

  • Graduate of the 2-year post-master's program in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy from the Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (MITPP)

Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Integrative Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Client-Centered Therapy

I have a advanced certificate in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy from Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (MITPP).

Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy focuses on:

1. Attachment

2. Child development

3. Understanding how one's developmental history shapes their way of relating to the world.

4. Building insight into the patterns that we repeat throughout our lives and disrupting those patterns.

*I do not use psychodynamic therapy for clients with OCD

CBT holds that our feelings and behaviors are shaped by automatic thoughts that are connected to core beliefs. CBT involves homework between sessions and techniques to challenge harmful automatic thoughts.

I use intigrative DBT to support clients in building distress tolerance, learning emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and developing the skill of mindfulness.  I often integrate DBT skills with another therapeutic approach.

I use client centered therapy to partner with clients in problem solving to meet goals that they define. When I am working from this perspective, I am your unconditional supporter who challenges you to make the changes you want, supports you engaging in advocacy for yourself and others, helps you to integrate your grief, and helps you break down overwhelming problems into manageable tasks.

motivational interviewing

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing holds that change is a process that occurs in identifiable stages. From this approach, my role is to encourage you to move through the stages of change to meet a specific goal.

IFS

Internal Family Systems

Internal family systems allows us to honor and work with all parts of ourselves in order to integrate traumatic experiences and strengthen the voice of our true selves.

Fees and Insurance

1

Insurance

I am an out-of-network provider for most insurances. I provide weekly bills superbills that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. On average, clients pay 20-35 dollars per session with out-of-network reimbursement.

Unfortunately I am not in network due to the high rate of  retroactive claim denials. The low rates that insurance companies pay therapists lead to high case loads and reduced quality of care.

2

Private Pay

My private pay sliding scale goes from $95 - $145 per session based on financial need.

I charge a fee that covers holding session, writing legally required session notes, planning sessions and responding to you in emergencies.

If you are in need of immediate crisis support, please:

  • call 988 or 911

  • Go to your nearest emergency room
